As the temperature starts to dip and winter slowly approaches, a Mooresville father and daughter are doing their part to make sure none of their fellow residents has to endure the cooler weather without proper attire.

MOORESVILLE, N.C. – Mooresville High School is now using metal detector wands as an extra security precaution at football games. The school is complying with the guidelines of the 4A Athletic Conference, which the school just moved in to this year.

Lake Norman High School is located in Mooresville, North Carolina. The school is a part of the Iredell-Statesville school system. The name of the school comes from nearby Lake Norman. Lake Norman High was built to relieve over crowding at near-by South Iredell High School; currently Lake Norman is overcrowded and South Iredell is far under their capacity.
Size
The school, as of the 1st day of school in the 2008-2009 year, has a student body of about 1,925.The school was originally built for 1,300 students. In 2006, a new wing was added on to the school as the Freshman Academy that still does not succeed in holding the amount of students actually attending.
Athletics
The Lake Norman men's soccer team won the N.C. High School Athletic Association state 3-A boys soccer championship over defending state champion Jacksonville High School during the Fall 2006 season, and repeated as champions over Wilson Fike during the Fall 2007 season. In Fall 2008, the football team finally succeeded in beating the rival Mooresville football team. The Lake Norman men's swim team won the N.C. High School Athletic Association state 3-A men's swimming championship over 3-time winner Charlotte Catholic in the winter 2008-2009 season. The school has also had individual state champions in wrestling (2009), men's and women's swimming (2009) and women's tennis (2008).
Beginning in 2009, Lake Norman competes in the I-Meck (Iredell-Mecklenburg County) conference with the following local high schools:

North Mecklenburg High School "Vikings"
Hopewell High School "Titans"
Zebulon B. Vance High School "Cougars"
West Charlotte High School "Lions"
Mallard Creek High School "Mavericks"
With Lake Norman now in the same Conference as North Mecklenburg High School, a new football rivalry has been created called "The Backyard Brawl" similar to Pittsburgh and West Virginia's annual rivalry. Lake Norman's Head Football Coach, Scott Sherrill, left North Meck to become the Wildcats' first football coach in 2002. Their matchup will be Coach Sherrill's first ever return to North Meck as an opponent. The Basketball teams are also expected to develop a heated rivalry as former North Meck players currently play at Lake Norman.
