- Herbert Hoover High School (commonly abbreviated HHHS) is a public high school in Clendenin, West Virginia. The current principal, Mr. Kelley has been with the school since 2009. This is Mr. Kelleys first year.
- Herbert Hoover High School claims to be a "magnet school for technology" (i.e. a school to attract students by the use of a calculator), but in 2006 Herbert Hoover lost this status. Herbert Hoover, however, is an excellent school in the Kanawha Valley for students to learn. Many individuals who graduated from Herbert Hoover High School have gone to have excellent careers. Herbert Hoover now has many special classes including AFJROTC, a cooking class, shop, a new an upcoming forensic lab, and aviation. The Herbert Hoover Huskies won the AA State Championchip in baseball in 2007 under coach Buckner. Tim Meyer is now the head football coach for the Huskies.
- History
-
The construction of Herbert Hoover High School was completed in September 1963. It was first renovated in 1970 when the Little Theater was added. The second renovation occurred when Kanawha County Schools implemented the middle school concept in the summer of 1991. A Commons Area and additional classrooms were added at this time as well as additions to the library. Nine portables were placed behind the school to handle the addition of 9th graders.
- The Flood of 1997, which washed away part of the bank behind the school and put three inches of water throughout the building, brought about the renovation of the gym and some of the portables. Another flood occurred in the summer of 1998 and resulted in some minor damage to the gym floor. A new auxiliary gym was added in 2002.
- The library was again renovated in 1998 to make room for one of the new WV Success Computer Labs. Other labs were added, eventually, bringing the total to seven labs. Then several labs were taken away to make room for more classrooms, decreasing the total number of labs to three and one mobile lab. A Distance Learning Lab was implemented in 2003.
- In 2001, the county removed three of the nine portables. Two others were moved out during the summer of 2002. Yet another two were removed during the summer of 2006. The only one that remains is used for the Junior ROTC program.
- Band
-
The Herbert Hoover High School Marching Band is one of the eight public high schools in Kanawha County that participate in the Daily Mail Kanawha County Majorette and Band Festival. They are the first band to have won the Festival Grand Championship, which was first awarded in 1970. They were also the first band to have won the festival five consecutive times. They have a total of nine wins at the festival (1970, 1977, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1987, and 1988). They have also had seven girls named Miss Kanawha Majorette. They include:
- 2007-Chelsea Morton
- 2006-Stevi Ryder
- 2001-Megan Tucker
- 2000-Christal Kirk
- 1997-Kristen Tucker
- 1996-Heather Anderson
