- How It WorksLearn More about Pivot Charter School from our Executive Director, Jayna Gaskell on Blog Talk Radio.Tuition Free ProgramPivot Charter Schools are California public charter schools and are therefore free to all California residents that meet the legal requirements for attending a charter school. Students do not have to pay for the online courses or for the support they receive from the local teachers at the resource center.Preview Our Curriculum HereClick here to learn more about our curriculum.ProgramsPivot Charter Schools recognize that students working online and in independent study must have a significant level of independence or support at home in order to be successful. And not all students have that self-motivation, support or independence. Therefore, Pivot has developed resource center programs to support those students in meeting their educational goals using the online curriculum.Choose One of the Following Four ProgramsStudents in grades 6-12 choose one of the following four programs:Five days a weekStudents are at our resource center participating in the learning lab session five days a week from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm. During this time teachers provide oversight, monitoring, small group instruction and some tutoring. This program is for the student who needs structure and would not work as well independently at home. Two days a weekStudents are at our resource center participating in the learning lab session two days a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30 until 3:00. This program is for the student who can work from home and get help from the online teachers but might benefit from the additional support from the resource center teachers. One day a weekStudents are at our resource center participating in the learning lab sessions one day a week or participating in school- related activities, some of which can result in credit, such as community service activities.VirtualStudents either living beyond a 45-mile radius of the school who cannot attend our resource center program and/or who have proven that they can consistently complete their required work (4 assignments a day with a passing grade) every school day, independently, with assistance from online teachers and weekly check-ins with their assigned Pivot teacher may work online only.Spring Valley Resource CenterStudents living in or near the Spring Valley area may opt to visit our resource center there for a 2-day-a-week program. Three Educational Coordinators and the Special Education Coordinator are at our resource center for a learning lab session and 1:1 tutoring. This program is offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 pm until 3:30 pm.
