From our humble beginnings renting space in a local church for 77 6th-9th grade students, we are now in our fifth year on our own campus which accommodates the 2018 expansion of our school from 6-12 to K-12. Our student body numbers over 900 students this year. Over the past twelve years, MacLaren has racked up impressive awards (School of Distinction, John Irwin Award of Excellence, High School Growth Award) and test scores (Class of 2017 state record-breaking ACT composite average of 29.8) while daily undertaking the task of developing young men and women who are fully human and fully awake to the world. We expect each student to master history, mathematics, science, literature, Latin and English, as well as to gain familiarity with at least one other language and fine arts. Our Lower School (K-5) curriculum, full of rigorandwonder, prepares younger students to be able to plumb the depths of the Upper School (6-12) curriculum eagerly and confidently.

School Reviews

My child attended 6th and 7th grade here. This school lacks support systems for children who are challenged by its rigorous academics. Instruction is teacher-centered and lecture-based. Diverse learning styles are not acknowledged.Detentions, academic deficiency notices, and verbal reprimands are given liberally. Mental health resources, learning support opportunities, and positive reinforcement are scarce and were not offered until we demanded them. This school could benefit greatly from training in diversity, inclusion, and equity. The 7th grade curriculum has a nearly singular focus on Christianity in Medieval History. It's also notable that, in the entire grade 6-12 reading list (which is extensive), there is only one work written by a BIPOC author. Critical discussion is discouraged. My child has always been well-behaved and a gifted learner. Here, she lost her love of learning, and her self-esteem suffered. I cannot recommend this school.

My adolescent child comes home everyday screaming and crying which is ok I guess I don't really love him, I'm very happy with how white this school is, it makes me feel like my child is safer. I also appreciate the lack of freedom because children don't know what they want and can't think straight. I am also happy that my child, my sweet poo, my honey buns doesn't have to have conversations with people who are ... how do I say... poor, which also categorizes BLGT people. I am so happy that the genders are separated to because women and girls have to stop teasing boys by having bodies. it's so unfair to my sweet boy. Girls are to distracting, boys don't need to restrain themselves because girls aren't allowed to have bodies it's a SIN for a girl to have.... shoulders and ankles (pardon my inappropriate language) I am so happy with how this school shields my son from the real world and teaches him that he is better than everyone else because his mommy and daddy have MONEYYYYYYY -Karen Smith
