Matthews Elementary is a great school with dedicated teachers and wonderful students. The school is an old and doesn't have the bells and whistles of newer facilities but that can't be helped. Unfortunately it is currently without a principal as she's moved to a new school. However, ME hasn't missed a beat while CMS interviews for a new leader. My child has been there 3 years and has never had more than 20 children in her class. The comments about discipline issues are a joke to me, imagine blaming other children for your child's bad behavior? I find that there are some very entitled parents who act as if the world should revolve around their child...I've seen countless examples. My daughter is thriving, well behaved, getting a great education, loves going to school every day and is very proud to be a Stinger.

Please replace the school principal , she needs to learn better communication skills. I didn''t think principals were supposed to take part in the political realm.. especially for a public school where there is no pay to play. Maybe I should have donated a bench and then I might be heard!

The above comment is completely on track. This school is WAY over crowded. Discipline problems are a major issue. My child was performing above average until starting at this school. Within 3 months we saw a compete backslide in our child's reading and writing abilities, as well as, modeling of unacceptable behavior learned by unadjusted peers. The teachers for the most part are dedicated, but simply cannot do thier best given the fact that they have no support. The principal is completely unapproachable.

Over crowded school with too many administration problems to list. Teachers are wonderful but not supported ( no teachers assistants even though some class student teacher ratios are as high as 28:1). If you have a child that is gifted or ahead, they will not thrive at this school as teachers must focus their attention and energy on students who have discipline problems leaving the gifted students to fall through the cracks. Lets not EVEN discuss the ineffective communication skills of the administration. I applied for the lottery in hopes of getting my child out of there. If you can afford private school run don't walk away!
