School Reviews

I was well prepared for college by excellent instruction in the Okemos Public Schools. It could not have been better. The first two years of college were mostly subjects I already knew from my High school. OHS 1971.

This may be a highly ranked school, but it is only because the students are already very intelligent and pushed hard by their parents. If you are a student who struggles, for whatever reason, they do not put forth much effort to help. This was my experience for Grades 7 - 12. Elementary and 5/6 Middle school are excellent, however, in this regard. Also, hardly any elective courses available.

Good school, everything is really hard, normal classes are honors classes. AP classes are seen as normal and if you don't take them you are considered not smart. Fine arts classes are amazing, but the theater department is flawed. School also looks only at the persecution of students and never the student's story, admins always things students are wrong and don't know anything.

Best High school smartest kids.

Instructional time is wasted with things like week-long movie viewing between units. Also, throughout the curriculum, very few writing assignments are required. Administration seeks no input from pupils or parents on whether projects listed in course outlines are actually assigned and graded. Neither faculty nor counseling staff show any interest in or ability to address the obstacles faced by less-than-excellent-pupils. Building Administration lacks any visible role in assuring instructional quality but takes significant credit for overall high success rates in standardized testing.
